Evolution optimizes for reproduction, not wellbeing. This misalignment has caused billions of years of excessive agony. We fund work to understand suffering, neutralize it, and ensure it never returns.
Our mission
For most of life's history, sentient beings have been forced to endure disease, aging, hunger, and trauma, because nothing could be done about it.
Now something can. End Suffering exists to bring about a future where no being is forced to endure these torments.
What we do
We fund research that
We support the development of pharmacological, neurotechnological, and genetic interventions that target suffering directly, in humans and non-humans alike.
We seek to discover what a good life can look like with these constraints lifted, and how this option can be made available to every life.
Our approach
Social progress is necessary but not sufficient. No political reform will rewire the amygdala; a moose being blinded by brainworms doesn't care about economic policy. Biotechnology solves the problem at root.
This work is hard, slow, and expensive, yet more tractable now than it has ever been. We fund the scientists, technologists, ethicists, and advocates that take it seriously.
Life's past was shaped by mechanistic evolution. Its future will be shaped by human compassion.
A world-historical tragedy that moral persuasion has proven its ineffectiveness at stopping.
